Position Status: Permanent full time

Hours of work: 35 hour week (with a RDO every third week)

About the Role

Bathurst Regional Council is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Environmental Health Officer to join our Environment Team. As an Environmental Health Officer you will ensure that Bathurst Regional Council implements an environmental health program which protects public health and the environment. You will be responsible for enhancing, promoting and where necessary enforcing standards in relation to regulated premises in both a commercial and residential context.

The position requires that you work as a part of a close knit team or autonomously as workloads dictate. The ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks/ projects is essential.

Key requirements:  
  • Inspection and regulation of food premises to ensure compliance with the Food Act 2003 and associated regulation
  • Inspection of skin penetration premises and public swimming pools to determine compliance with the Public Health Act 2010 and associated regulation
  • Perform inspections and issue approvals under section 68 of the Local Government Act 1993
  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health and experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated experience in food inspection, enforcement duties and assessment and approval of onsite sewage management systems
  • Current Class C Drivers Licence
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision using judgement and initiative
  • Ability to provide specialist technical advice on development applications in relation to environmental health issues
